Our first ground-up development: twelve townhomes in Portland, Texas.
We ran this one the way we run the rest of the portfolio. Billy managed delivery directly: contractor selection, sourcing, cost engineering and on-site oversight. We didn't hand the project to a third-party developer and review it from a distance.
Texas wasn't new ground for us. It's the family's largest restaurant market, so we were signing leases, training staff and reading trade areas there long before we broke ground on townhomes. The same is true across the portfolio: every building we own sits in a state where the family already runs a restaurant. Portland is where we first put that knowledge behind something we built ourselves, not something we leased.
